About Amy
As a UK-trained concert pianist and educator, I hold a Bachelor of Music and dual Master’s degrees from UK conservatoires. My career bridges elite European training with innovative pedagogy at a Chinese University, China’s pioneering German-partnered institution where I developed a performance-intensive curriculum blending Western and Chinese traditions. An active performer across the UK (London’s Bargehouse, the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Dora Stoutzker Hall, and Birmingham Conservatoire’s Recital Hall and more) and China (city Philharmonic collaborations, government galas, performed with national first-class musicians). I’ve taught 150+ students from beginners to conservatory level. During my time in Birmingham, I completed structured teaching placements in both primary and secondary schools, working with students at levels ranging from beginner to post-GCSE. These included students with autism and visual impairments. My student-centred approach was highly praised by supervising teachers and remains central to my educational practice. I earned First-Class Honours in all music education modules in both London and Birmingham, affirming my academic strength in the field. These experiences have deepened my conviction that the creativity emphasised in Western pedagogy complements the structured discipline of Asian musical training. I draw on both traditions to help students realise their full artistic potential. My personal strengths in sight-reading and fast repertoire acquisition continue to inform my teaching, helping students develop the kind of agile, responsive musicianship needed in today’s evolving music world.

My Teaching Philosophy & Methodology Holistic Technique Development I combine the Asian school’s technical rigour with Western pedagogical creativity, refined through: Bachelor + Dual Master’s training (8 years' training in the UK conservatoires) 10 years’ teaching across China/UK (university to young beginners) My lessons are fully customised for each student. Drawing on 10 years of international teaching experience, I design engaging activities tailored to individual goals, whether mastering classical repertoire, or playing pop favourites. For children, we incorporate games and technology, adults explore musical expression through pieces they love. Every lesson in my grand piano studio becomes an inspiring musical adventure Ideal Students Levels: Beginner to Diploma (ABRSM/Trinity) Ages: 4+ (specialising in teen competition prep + adult amateurs) Unique offerings: Bilingual instruction (English/Mandarin/Cantonese) Why My Approach Stands Out Cultural fusion: Blends Chinese discipline with Western expressiveness Professional tools: Studio grand piano ensures authentic sound development Proven outcomes: One of my recent students got the offer from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

I am writing to highly recommend Amy as an exceptional piano teacher. I have been her student for over a year, during which she guided me from Grade 1 to Grade 6 with remarkable dedication, patience, and expertise.
She is not only a skilled pianist but also a kind, encouraging, and patient instructor. She has a unique ability to make lessons both enjoyable and challenging, adapting her teaching style to suit my learning pace. Whenever I struggled with difficult pieces or techniques, she would break them down into manageable steps and motivate me with positive reinforcement. Her warm and friendly personality made every lesson something I looked forward to.
I've been learning piano with Amy for a while now, and she's simply fantastic. She's incredibly knowledgeable, always explaining musical concepts clearly and breaking down tough pieces into manageable steps.
What truly makes her stand out is her patience and encouragement. Even when I struggled, Amy remained calm and supportive, turning mistakes into learning moments.
She's also very professional and organized, always on time and tailoring lessons to my specific goals. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students' progress.
If you're looking for a piano teacher who is not only brilliant but also kind, patient, and inspiring, Amy is absolutely the one. She's made learning piano a real joy!I can't recommend Amy enough as a piano teacher. For the past 2 years, she's not only taught me how to play, but how to truly love music.
Amy has this special way of making challenging pieces feel manageable. She knows exactly when to push me harder and when to slow down, always with patience and encouragement. Her passion for music is contagious - I leave every lesson feeling inspired.
Any student would be incredibly lucky to have Amy as their teacher. I know I was.Amy isn’t just a piano teacher; she’s like the Dumbledore of music education (minus the beard but just as magical).
Thanks to her, I went from struggling with "Twinkle Twinkle" to actually understanding what a crescendo is—she's a true miracle worker.
What makes her so trustworthy? First, she’s taught everyone from little kids with sticky fingers to brilliant neurodivergent students—her patience is nothing short of saintly. Second, her "scary-but-fair" scale drills really do work (I now dream in Hanon!). And third, she’ll honestly tell you if you’re rushing the allegro like you’re ordering a coffee—no sugarcoating, just results.
Plus, she’s like a musical detective; within minutes, she can figure out why your trills sound like a dying cell phone and fix it. The only downside? You’ll never hear amateur piano playing the same way again.
Thanks for ruining elevator music for me, Amy. 10/10!View more recommendations
