About Jess
I used to be an army officer, but I gradually realised I was much better suited to teaching. I found educating, supporting and developing young people infinitely more rewarding than military-style instruction with lots of shouting and punishment. I have loved my last four years in classroom teaching and am looking to challenge myself by reaching out to a different demographic of students who wish to learn online.
I enjoy working with students who are self-motivated, inquisitive and arrive with questions. I enjoy getting you to support your opinions and 'back your chat'. I am a huge advocate for strong communication skills. I firmly believe that in the AI era when 'anyone can just ask ChatGPT anything' what will really set you apart is the ability to write and speak in full sentences using nothing but your own brain. History is the perfect place to practise these skills.

I am a qualified Secondary History Teacher who has predominantly worked in classrooms. I have mostly taught GCSE but I am also able to tutor A Level history
There is no 'one size fits all' approach to tutoring! Different people need different things from their tutors, so I can tailor lessons to almost anybody - provided you are motivated and willing to work hard!
I start with an assessment of where you are in your curriculum and we will decide what you want/need to focus on together. (Subject knowledge/ essay skills/ exam skills)
You will have the opportunity to discuss historical concepts to gain a better understanding. I can even re-teach lessons you received at school if needed.
You will have the opportunity to develop and practise writing skills.
You will have the opportunity to develop and practise revision skills.
