About Finn

I am an aspiring musician who writes their own songs and spends all day obsessing over music and would like to spread my love for music to the rest of the world. Had a lot of fun teaching my friends and peers about music and would love to continue doing so with whoever I teach in the future.

About the lesson

While I may not have any formal training with regard to my musical ability. I have only been playing piano for a year and a half and have been able to make quite rapid improvements. You can have a look at my demonstration video to assess whether or not the way in which I play is something that you would like to emulate or at least learn a thing or two from. I believe that if I am able to teach myself the things I have learned, I am able to teach them to you as well! I don't believe repetitively practicing sheet music to be the most productive or engaging way to learn piano. But, instead to explore the parts of music/piano that a student personally finds engaging and understanding it on a fundamental level where they are to apply it to whatever they please. I don't believe I am gifted or talented with music as I failed music in high school by quite a wide margin. Instead, I simply developed my own method of learning which makes the process of learning as engaging as possible in order to incentivize myself to play much more and to understand music on as deep of a level as possible. What I can teach you - How to improvise - How to learn to play your favorite songs by ear !! - How to Read basic sheet music - How to write your own songs! - Different ways to play your favorite songs - Music theory - Whatever else you would like to learn! My teaching methodology - Spend the majority of time playing and having fun as opposed to studying and practicing drills - No specific strict piano syllabus, really just depends on what the student is interested in. - Treating music the same way as a language - Developing a teaching style and approach based on each individual student - Making sure lessons are as engaging as possible and never feel like a chore or homework. My Lessons are for everyone of any age, race, or experience. The length of the lesson really depends on the person and how long they would like to learn.

Perfect! Finn has a very different approach to teaching than the average tutor. He has a very easy going method of teaching that I think people will find very accessible. He also has an honest persona and acknowledges that he isn't a licenced piano teacher, which therefore in my opinion, allows beginners to feel greatly inspired and enthused to continue learning. I'm thrilled to continue learning with him!

Jacob was extremely attentive during his lesson, and had the humility to explore his weaknesses and what he did not know. He was willing to keep trying no matter how many times it may take to be able to execute what he was taught. A very good student overall.

Perfect! Finn is very friendly and shows real passion for piano and improvisation. If you not only want to learn but also learn to love the instrument, I think Finn is great for that and would recommend him highly to anyone. I'm really excited to see how things progress with Finn's guidance over the next few months.
