About Roy
I have been providing one-to-one tuition since 2009. I have had about twenty students. Most were studying GCSE maths around year 10-11. Some were studying my preferred topics, which are Applied Mathematics for first-year university students in engineering and physics, A-Level maths and A-level physics. I also teach any GCSE Science subject. I have extensive experience in software development, coding and IT generally.

I provide one-to-one in students' homes, typically once per week. I provide an initial assessment, without commitment either way, then organise a teaching plan for about ten sessions. Lessons are typically one hour and often consist of the student working through a worksheet that I have created specifically for that lesson, but which serves as the basis for extensive two-way dialogue. I adapt lessons to the needs and expressed wishes of the student, often at short notice of change of plan and even subject. For GCSE I base the plan on textbooks that support the national curriculum and take advantage of extensive online material, including videos as homework. I have created my own worksheets for many topics, mostly in a tutorial style rather than numerous examples. For A-level I base tuition on my own subject knowledge, adapted to suit the needs of the student. For university level, which is typically vacation catch-up work or course transfer, I use the student's lecturer's material as a skeleton around which to build my own interpretation. I keep extensive records of the student's work, which I feed back by email. I would particularly like to give tuition in coding (any age) and internet-of-things, but have not yet had the opportunity.
