About Allyson

Hi! My name is Allyson, and I am a dancer based in Texas, specifically Fort Worth and Austin, TX. Currently, I am a Modern Dance Major in the School for Classical & Contemporary Dance at Texas Christian University. During my time at TCU, I had the opportunity to take classes that cater to my craft as a dancer and teacher, such as Teaching Methods, Functional Anatomy, and Dance Composition/Choreography to name a few. I train daily with dance professionals and faculty Dr. Suki John, Dr. Nina Martin, Sarah Newton, Adam Mickenny, Gabriel Speiller, Laura Barbee, and Najwa Seyedmorteza. During my time at TCU, I have also had opportunities to work with guest artists in choreographic residencies, including KT Nelson, Bryn Cohn, Jamila Glass, and Nycole Ray. I have set choreography "Air and Lack Thereof" (2021) and "Constantly Improving" (2023), and represented TCU at the American College Dance Association in 2022 and 2023 in works "Logically Emotional" and "Line.Point.Line," being selected to perform in the Gala performance.

Before Collegiate dance, I trained at Shirley McPhail School of Dance, where I studied ballet, jazz, pointe, contemporary, and tap. I was a member of the performance company and competition team, Troupe SMSDance. I then ventured into the drill team world in middle school where I was a member and line officer of the Wiley Middle School Silver Spurs. In High School, I joined Rouse High School's Varsity Dance Team, the Rouse Royals, where I served as 2nd Lieutenant for the 2020-2021 academic year. I also performed in Rouse Theatre musicals "Bring it on" and "Les Miserables" on the dance company.

About the lesson

The styles I specialize in are jazz, contemporary, modern, hip-hop, drill team (kick, pom, drill), and acro. I offer additional training in conditioning, leaps and turns, improv/contact improv, and floorwork.

My typical lesson plan consists of a thorough warm-up catered to the dancer(s) needs followed by conditioning and technique. My lessons conclude with a combination of phrase work followed by a cool down to slow the dancer's heart rate down and prevent injury.

For choreography, my process starts with getting to know the dancer(s) artistry and skills by teaching a short combination, improvisation, and discussing what skills, music, and style the
dancer(s) want to include in their piece. I then choreograph based on those elements. For the result, I leave room for the dancer(s) to give their input for changes or adjustments if needed.
