About Jamila

Hello! I am Jamila I am a Senior Social Worker and have almost 10 years' experience working within adult social care. I have developed my knowledge and skills in lots of complex areas when working with adults with Mental Health needs, Dementia diagnosis, Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Physical Disabilities. I am a Stage 2 Practice Educator so have vast amounts of experience working with social work students; providing a supportive learning environment, offering mentorship, conducting supervisions and observations and supporting them with passing their placement. In addition, I am a qualified Best Interest Assessor which entails completing assessments for adults who are deprived of their liberty in care homes or hospitals. I am a supportive, kind and caring individual whose aim is to share my knowledge, experience and skills with social workers who are starting their social work journey, currently undertaking their social work degree or who may need a refresher.

About the lesson

I use a person-centred, supportive and encouraging approach to students. I am patient, kind, a good listener and very approachable. I can support with creating a specialised plan/agenda to target any specific needs. Assist in providing in-depth supervision discussions and critical reflection sessions. Discuss relevant theories that apply in social work such as strengths-based approach, trauma-informed practice and motivational interviewing. I have frontline experience in completing assessments in line with the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Section 21A Challenges, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, in addition to complex safeguarding. I also support practitioners with mock interviews and preparing them for a job interview to ease any anxieties. Assisting with essay structure, proofreading, practical tasks and challenges whilst on placement or in the workplace. My sessions include: - Supportive and constructive discussions around cases/studies/experience -Discuss relevant theories, journal articles and resources and how to apply this into practice -Encouraging active reflection and critical thinking - Setting clear yet reasonable deadlines and reviews to improve on timekeeping and organisation skills I support social work practitioners, newly qualified social workers (ASYE), social work students, and student social workers on placement. I am keen on providing a safe space to successfully learn and develop your skills and knowledge to become an efficient and effective social worker
