About Shelli
I have been enamored with the power of sewing since the age of 10. As the youngest child, I always got hand-me-downs and they simply weren’t cutting it plus I had a stuffed animal desperately in need of their own wardrobe. Once I learned from family the basics, I couldn’t get enough! I continued seeking out more knowledge, worked with the costuming department at my high school drama program, and eventually upgrading to an old table sewing machine from a family friend until I could afford something more modern a few years later.
As a professional dancer and dance educator sewing has been an invaluable tool in bringing my costuming visions to life for myself and my students! With a little creative thinking, I have even been able to craft helpful tools like hot/cold packs using the power of sewing (and YouTube)!
When working with me, there is a strong importance placed on meeting a goal. It’s important to me that my students create feasible goals so they can see measurable success. As such, we’ll work together to create a lesson plan that works for your schedule and skill level.

Sewing is a skill that people from all walks of life, backgrounds, ages, etc can benefit from learning. It can be used to mend clothes on a budget and take your closet to the next level!
Through in-person or online instruction, I’ll teach you basic hand-sewing techniques so you can stop spending money on simple alterations/mending and build the confidence to start your own projects from scratch, whether you go the up-cycling route using fabric from home (like that one lonely sock at the bottom of your drawer) or pick up a funky new bundle of fabric from the store for a fresh look!
