About May
I’m a friendly, patient, and dedicated tutor who genuinely enjoys helping children learn and grow. As an Education student at Simon Fraser University, I’m passionate about creating a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing what they find challenging.
I understand that learning math can sometimes feel frustrating or overwhelming. My goal is to help students feel more confident by celebrating their progress, explaining concepts clearly, and encouraging them to keep trying when something feels difficult.
I take every student’s learning needs seriously and adapt my lessons to their individual pace and level. Whether they need extra support with a specific topic or simply want more practice and confidence, I aim to make every lesson welcoming, productive, and encouraging.
Parents can feel reassured that their child is learning in a supportive environment with someone who is committed to their academic growth and confidence.

Hi, I’m May, an Education student at SFU who is passionate about helping young learners build confidence and enjoy mathematics.
My teaching approach
I believe children learn math best when concepts are explained in a simple, clear, and encouraging way. I break difficult problems into smaller steps and use examples, visuals, practice questions, and real-life situations to make math easier to understand. I encourage students to ask questions and learn from mistakes without feeling pressured.
A typical lesson
Each lesson begins with a quick review of what the student already knows. We then introduce or review the main concept, work through examples together, and gradually move toward independent practice. I pay attention to areas where the student is struggling and adjust my explanations and activities accordingly. At the end, we review what was learned and identify what the student can continue practicing.
What sets me apart
As an Education student, I am developing my understanding of how children learn and how teaching can be adapted to different learning needs. I am patient, approachable, and focused on making students feel comfortable asking questions. My goal is not just to help students get the correct answer, but to help them understand *why* the answer is correct and become more confident in solving problems independently.
Who my lessons are for
My lessons are designed for elementary school students who want extra support, practice, or enrichment in mathematics. I can help students with topics such as addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, word problems, measurement, geometry, and other elementary-level math concepts.
