About Agus
I’m a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in building modern, scalable web applications from the ground up. I specialise in backend development using Node.js and TypeScript, with solid hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle—from setting up development environments and designing system architecture to deploying production-ready applications on the cloud. I teach practical, real-world software development, covering essential tools and technologies such as Git, Docker, REST APIs, databases, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms like AWS. My approach is hands-on and structured, helping students understand not just how to write code, but how professional software is actually built, tested, deployed, and scaled in industry. Whether you’re a beginner looking to get started or a developer aiming to level up your skills, I focus on clear explanations, best practices, and confidence-building through real projects. My goal is to help you become job-ready by learning the tools, workflows, and mindset used by experienced engineers in modern tech teams.

Modern software development starts with setting up the right tools and environment. A typical setup includes an operating system such as macOS, Linux, or Windows, a powerful code editor like VS Code, a terminal for command-line work, and Git for version control. Code is usually hosted on platforms such as GitHub or GitLab to enable collaboration, code reviews, and automated workflows. These foundational tools allow developers to work efficiently and maintain high-quality, traceable codebases. Building a web application from scratch usually begins with planning the architecture and defining the responsibilities of the frontend, backend, and database. On the frontend, developers commonly use JavaScript or TypeScript with frameworks like React or Next.js to create responsive user interfaces. On the backend, Node.js with TypeScript is widely used alongside frameworks such as Express or NestJS to build secure and scalable APIs. Databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB are integrated using ORMs such as Prisma or TypeORM to manage data reliably. Once development begins, the application is typically containerised using Docker to ensure consistency across local, staging, and production environments. Docker makes it easier to run services locally, onboard new developers, and deploy applications in a predictable way. This approach is especially important for microservices-based systems, where multiple services need to run together seamlessly. After the application is ready, it is deployed to the cloud using providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Cloud services handle compute, storage, networking, and databases, allowing applications to scale efficiently. Infrastructure is often managed using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, which makes environments reproducible, version-controlled, and easy to maintain across different stages such as development, staging, and production. To automate and safeguard deployments, CI/CD pipelines are set up using tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins. These pipelines automatically run tests, perform code quality checks, build Docker images, and deploy the application whenever changes are pushed to the repository. CI/CD reduces human error, speeds up delivery, and ensures that only tested, reliable code reaches production. Finally, production systems are supported with monitoring, logging, testing, and security best practices. Monitoring tools track performance and system health, logging helps diagnose issues quickly, and automated tests ensure long-term stability as the codebase grows. Security measures such as environment-based configuration, secrets management, and HTTPS protect user data. Together, these practices result in a robust, scalable, and production-ready web application built using modern software engineering standards.
