About Amy

I've been teaching Mandarin since 2011, and have taught a fair old number of students in that time. As I'm a classroom teacher as well as a language tutor, altogether I've helped hundreds of students to learn a language. My GCSE students have all achieved the grades they were aiming for, or in fact, often higher.

I've taught native speaking kids how to read, as well as pensioners who are new to the language, as well as everyone in between. Basically, let me know what you want, I can probably help you learn it!

About the lesson

Hi, I'm a teacher of Mandarin who has taught Mandarin for a number of years to all ages and levels of students. I studied Mandarin at university in the UK and as an exchange student at Nanjing University in China, before going on to complete teacher training and an MA in teaching studies.

Lessons I give are structured around student progress; everything is done with the end goal in mind. I am a modern teacher, so I am mindful of student experience. This means I like to keep classes interesting and to the point! As I teach all ages, from very young to adults I adjust the way I teach according to my students; I have Disney books and songs for my youngest learners, but interesting articles and TED talks for the oldest.

I am a very flexible and patient tutor and teacher. I'm currently a doctoral student of languages education, and I am very aware of the difficulties faced by learners and the work required to overcome them. I will always do my best for my students, and absolutely believe that if you can learn your first language, you can learn a second.
