About Mahmoud
I am a bilingual medical doctor and experienced educator specializing in Spanish (including Medical Spanish) and Human Anatomy & Physiology. I earned my Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Ross University School of Medicine in 2016 and hold a B.S. in Biology from Case Western Reserve University. With nearly a decade of professional experience in healthcare and clinical education, I combine my medical expertise with a passion for teaching. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, which allows me to help students not only learn general Spanish but also master specialized medical terminology and communication. My background as a physician enriches my tutoring in Anatomy & Physiology, since I can draw on real-world clinical examples to make complex concepts accessible. I am committed to providing a supportive, engaging learning environment for adult learners of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced students seeking to refine their skills.

Student-Centered and Adaptive: My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that learning should be tailored to the individual student. Whether you are a beginner building foundational knowledge or an advanced learner refining your expertise, I adapt my approach to meet you at your level and address your specific goals. Each student is unique – I take time to understand your learning style, interests, and objectives so I can customize lessons that resonate with you.
Clarity and Confidence: I strive to make complex topics simple by breaking them down into clear, digestible pieces. In both language and science subjects, I use analogies, visuals, and real-life examples to reinforce understanding. My approach emphasizes mastering the fundamentals before moving to more challenging material. I encourage questions and pause frequently to check for understanding. The goal is to build your confidence through a solid grasp of core concepts and gradually introduce advanced content as you’re ready.
Interactive and Engaging: I believe that active engagement is key to learning. My sessions are interactive – expect plenty of practice and dialogue rather than just lectures. For Spanish, this means conversational practice, role-playing real-world scenarios, and interactive exercises that get you speaking and thinking in Spanish from day one. For Anatomy & Physiology, this means two-way discussions, drawing out diagrams together, and working through scenarios or case studies. I also incorporate multimedia (like images, flashcards, or short videos) to cater to visual and auditory learning styles, making sessions lively and varied.
Supportive Environment: As a tutor, I am patient, approachable, and supportive. Mistakes are a natural part of learning, especially for adult learners who may be juggling studies with other responsibilities. I foster a judgment-free space where you can feel comfortable attempting new things, whether it’s pronouncing new Spanish phrases or explaining a physiological process. My feedback is constructive and positive – highlighting your progress and pinpointing areas to improve with encouragement. I know from experience that confidence grows when students feel supported, so I celebrate successes (big or small) and continuously motivate you to reach the next level.
Real-World Application: Particularly for adult learners, I emphasize how your new skills apply beyond the textbook. If you’re learning Spanish, we’ll focus on practical language use – from everyday conversations to, if desired, workplace or medical Spanish interactions. If you’re studying Anatomy & Physiology, I’ll connect the material to real-life contexts, such as understanding your own health, preparing for a healthcare career, or simply appreciating how the human body works. My medical background allows me to enrich lessons with clinical insights, making the learning experience more relevant and exciting. Ultimately, my approach is about empowering you – giving you the tools and knowledge to use Spanish or A&P confidently in the situations that matter to you.
(For Spanish learners:) I use a communicative approach, meaning we use Spanish as much as possible in our sessions (adjusted to your comfort level). I focus on all four key skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing – with an emphasis on speaking and listening for real-life communication. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context, not as dry rules, so you learn how the language truly functions. I incorporate cultural elements and everyday scenarios to make the language come alive. Beginners will get explanations in English as needed, while advanced students can expect immersive sessions conducted largely in Spanish. For those interested in Medical Spanish, I integrate medical dialogues, patient-interview practice, and terminology drills so that you gain both language skill and cultural competence in healthcare settings.
(For Anatomy & Physiology students:) My approach is to build a strong foundational understanding of the human body’s structure and functions, then layer on details and complexities. I often start with big-picture concepts (for example, the role of a body system) before zooming into the anatomical parts or physiological mechanisms. During lessons, I encourage you to think critically – asking “why” and “how” to connect pieces of information. I may pose hypothetical scenarios (“What happens to blood pressure if…”) to stimulate critical thinking and application of concepts. If you’re a beginner or taking an entry-level A&P course, we will focus on plain-language explanations and fundamental principles. If you’re an advanced learner (such as a nursing student or preparing for exams), I’ll challenge you with deeper questions, clinical correlations, and problem-solving exercises akin to board exam questions. Throughout, I remain patient and ready to explain things in different ways – using diagrams, analogies (I have plenty of fun analogies for physiology!), or even demonstrations – until it clicks for you. My aim is to make Anatomy & Physiology not just memorization of facts, but a coherent story of how the body works, which makes it far easier to learn and retain.
In summary, my teaching approach is flexible, evidence-based, and learner-focused. I draw on my background as both a student and teacher in demanding fields to help you learn efficiently and enjoyably. Whether you’re starting from scratch or seeking to excel further, I will guide you with expertise, empathy, and enthusiasm.
