About Ethan

I am Ethan Moscoso, a heritage speaker of Ecuadorian Spanish from Maryland with a passion for Latin American literature and culture. I hold Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and Philosophy from Grinnell College, where I spent two years as a Spanish language tutor for college students. During my undergraduate studies, I intensively studied Spanish grammar, dialectology, and Latin American culture. I employ different tutoring methods based on the goals of my clients. My past tutees have excelled at improving their grammar, reading comprehension, conversation fluidity, and accents. Through my tutoring sessions, former students improved their grades in college-level Spanish courses and gained confidence in their conversational abilities, allowing them to excel at studying abroad in Spanish-speaking countries.

About the lesson

I employ distinct tutoring methods based on the goals of my clients.

When working with students who are taking Spanish courses at the high school or college level, I employ rigorous training in grammar, writing, and presentation skills. While I will begin by reviewing the materials your teacher or professor has given you (including your syllabus and current course work), I will also provide supplemental materials to strengthen your skills. My goal is to quickly discern your individual learning style so that I can foster a tutoring experience that allows you to excel in your classes and to enjoy improving your Spanish.

I also work with students who have non-academic tutoring needs. When working on accent reduction and conversational fluency, I ask each student to describe the situations in which they envision themselves using Spanish to design activities that are tailored to their goals. When necessary, I will also suggest using sessions to review the basics of Spanish grammar with the goal of helping you better navigate your conversations in Spanish.

For students interested in using media (television, music etc.) to improve their Spanish, I am also open to designing activities based specifically on these sources. I will always work with your individual interests so that you feel passionate about our sessions as I believe this is paramount to excelling at language learning.

I offer lessons in Montgomery County, Maryland at no additional cost for travel. Students may cancel or reschedule a session within 24 hours of the scheduled session at no cost.
