About Melissa

Hi! I’m Melissa. I’m 26, originally from Peru, and currently on the journey to getting my architecture license — soon I’ll be able to officially add “Architect” to my name, which is pretty exciting! I’m passionate about traveling, staying active, and exploring different cultures (especially through their food!). I love connecting with people from all over the world and believe there’s always something new to learn and share. I moved to the U.S. when I was 17, and that’s when I really experienced what it means to learn a new language. English completely changed my life. It opened doors I never imagined and gave me the chance to grow in so many ways. Thanks to that, I’ve been able to travel to different countries and connect with people without any language barriers. It’s been amazing. That’s why I’m such a big believer that anyone can learn a new language with the right mix of support, consistency, and patience. I’m here to help you feel confident, comfortable, and excited to start learning Spanish; or as we say, ¡a aprender español!

About the lesson

I love kicking off my classes with a song or a quick video, something light and fun to set the vibe and get us in a good mood. After that, I always check in with my student and ask what stood out to them. It’s a great way to spark conversation and make sure they feel like the center of the class (because they are!).

From there, I build the rest of the lesson around what they need or are curious about. So if today’s goal is to learn pronouns, dive into the verb to be, or tackle some conjugations, I’ll find a way to connect it all to something that actually matters to them.

I’m a big believer that what makes a great teacher isn’t just knowledge: it’s showing up with energy, empathy, and real care for your students. That’s the kind of teacher I always try to be.

I’ve taught Spanish to people of all ages. I was a Spanish tutor back in college and helped out with the Spanish club, too. It’s something I genuinely enjoy doing, and I always try to keep it fun, engaging, and meaningful.
