About Eva Maria

Originally from Spain and now proudly an Australian citizen, I have been living in Australia for the past 8 years. I first moved here to complete my Master’s degree and later spent 4 years working in the innovative cultured meat industry before returning to academia to pursue a PhD in Genetics.

My academic and professional background has given me extensive experience communicating complex ideas in a clear, approachable, and engaging way. Being closely connected to both Australian universities and the professional scientific world has also given me a strong understanding of Australian teaching standards and learning expectations.

I bring a professional, supportive, and adaptable approach to tutoring, creating lessons that are both structured and relaxed so students feel comfortable building confidence at their own pace. Whether you are learning Spanish for travel, work, studies, or personal interest, I aim to make lessons practical, enjoyable, and genuinely useful for real-life communication.

About the lesson

Teaching has always been a huge passion of mine. Ever since I was little, I would come home from school, dress up in my mum’s clothes, and “teach” lessons to my stuffed toys!

I’m originally from Spain, although I grew up in different parts of the world due to my dad’s work in Development and Cooperation for the European Union. Spanish has always been the language spoken at home, and it remains my mother tongue. Living across different countries and cultures has helped me understand that everyone learns differently, especially when it comes to languages. I know firsthand how challenging it can be to pick up everyday expressions, slang, and colloquialisms that are often used in real life but rarely taught in textbooks.

I have been tutoring in Australia for the past 8 years and have also taught laboratory classes at UNSW in the field of science. I am currently completing a PhD in Genetics at UNSW, which has further strengthened my teaching and communication skills.

My lessons are practical, engaging, and tailored to your level and goals - whether you are a complete beginner or already advanced. I usually structure classes over one hour, combining conversation practice about everyday topics, grammar exercises, and dictation or writing activities. The aim is to help you feel comfortable and confident speaking Spanish naturally in real-life situations. I am always happy to adapt lessons to suit your individual needs and interests.
