About Aska

I'm a 34-year-old Argentinean immigrant who moved to London 10 years ago and to Spain 20 years ago. I enjoy learning languages (Italian, Catalan, English, Twi), skating and cooking. On my spare time, I write and edit novels.

About the lesson

I adapt my lessons to individual students' needs and preferences, but in general I try to break up written activities with conversation and to write down or record what's said so the student can go over it later. I have worked with students with different learning disabilities, such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, and I have learned that by playing to their strengths, they could make great progress.

This also applies to those who did well in a school setting because the creativity required to work with those who are different also gives me extra tools to work with everyone else.

I started tutoring in 2006 while getting my English, Linguistics and Literature BA at the University of Barcelona, where I studied teaching languages to foreigners, phonetics and took advanced Spanish courses as well as the required English ones.

I went on to get an MA in English literature in Glasgow, where I was happy to discover my Scottish students could easily pronounce the 'j'!

Since then I have also taught English as an additional language and creative writing in secondary schools.

I have experience with students from year 1 to those in their 60s.
