About Jean

Hi! I’m a Math and Algebra tutor who loves helping students finally “get it” when it comes to math. I know math can feel confusing or even stressful at times, so my goal is to make it feel simpler, clearer, and more manageable step by step.

I take time to explain concepts in a way that actually makes sense—not just memorizing formulas, but understanding why they work. I’m patient, easy to work with, and I adjust my teaching style based on how you learn best.

Whether you’re struggling with basic algebra, preparing for exams, or just trying to improve your grades, I’ll guide you through problems in a clear and supportive way. Mistakes are always welcome in my sessions—they’re part of how we learn and improve.

I work with middle school, high school, college students, and adult learners who want to rebuild confidence in math or strengthen their skills for school, work, or personal goals.

If you’re looking for a tutor who is patient, supportive, and focused on making math easier to understand, I’d be happy to help you reach your goals!

1. Teaching method and techniques

My approach is concept-first, practice-driven.

Start with understanding, not formulas: I explain why a rule works before applying it.
Step-by-step breakdowns: I slow problems down into small, logical parts so nothing feels overwhelming.
Guided questioning (Socratic method): Instead of just giving answers, I ask targeted questions that lead you to the solution.
Pattern recognition: I help you see how different problem types are connected so you’re not learning everything as “new.”
Real-world analogies: I connect abstract algebra concepts to everyday situations when possible.
Error analysis: We don’t just fix mistakes—we figure out why they happened so they don’t repeat.
2. Typical lesson plan

A usual session follows this structure:

1. Quick check-in (5–10 min)
Review previous topic or homework
Identify confusion points
2. Concept teaching (10–20 min)
Introduce or review the core idea (e.g., solving equations, factoring, functions)
Walk through examples step-by-step
3. Guided practice (20–30 min)
Solve problems together
I gradually reduce help as you gain confidence
4. Independent practice (10–20 min)
You try problems on your own
I only step in when needed
5. Wrap-up (5–10 min)
Summarize key takeaways
Give shortcuts, tips, or memory tricks
Assign optional practice
3. What sets me apart as a tutor
I focus on building independence, not dependency.
I adapt explanations in multiple ways until it “clicks.”
I prioritize logic and understanding over memorization.
I’m flexible—if one method doesn’t work, I switch approaches quickly.
I help you develop a problem-solving mindset, not just get correct answers.
4. Who the lessons are for

My tutoring is suitable for:

Middle school students (pre-algebra foundations)
High school students (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry basics, Pre-calculus)
College students (intro algebra, remedial math, basic functions, equation solving)
Adult learners returning to math or preparing for tests
Specific needs I support:
Struggling with fundamentals
Test preparation (quizzes, finals, placement tests)
Catching up after gaps in learning
Strengthening algebra for higher-level math or career requirements
