About Dwight
Attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts (fine arts highschool) majoring in music performance for Oboe. Performed with the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra, Samford University Orchestra, Alabama School of Fine Arts Orchestra, and Alabama Symphony Orchestra. I've been teaching/tutoring for 4 years and mostly teach low income and minority students. My students receive a well-rounded education at a lower price point. My objective is to train my students to be musicians that will flourish in a competitive environment. I want to pass on my knowledge to underprivileged students and give them a fighting chance agaianst their privileged counterparts.

I would describe my teaching approach as nurturing. Yelling and embarrassing a student will not help the student achieve their goals.
- I start each of my students with scales and basic music theory lessons. Scales are consistently used in musical works so it is best to learn them early. This will make the student more aware of what they are playing and will help them learn the music at a faster pace. I introduce music theory skills early. It is an essential part of your latter musical education. It will also help the student identify helpful solutions within their assigned pieces.
- While my students are learning all 12 of their major scales (can be argued) I will introduce learning exercises. These exercises will increase their sound quality and enhance the overall control of their instrument. It will also strengthen their knowledge of musical literature.
- I refer to the Barret Oboe methods book when giving out playing assignments. These etudes will help the player develop musical technique. This book is also used with college students, it is an amazing head start.
- In any lesson, if the student would like to work on a piece or etude I will be happy to help.
Every student is different and will require different means of planning.
I teach beginner and intermediate students. The first lesson will be a "get to know you" session and a demonstration of skill if the player fills comfortable playing something. I am extremely happy to teach more students and enjoy seeing them strive and achieve their goals
