About Sue

- What kind of experience do you have? It is a most rewarding 16 year journey together for me and all my students who have learnt with me, still learning with me and I want to say a big thank you to every student and their families for the coffees and teas and even dinner! For many students, it started as a chore, a struggle, a pain but they soon realise that they can do maths and it is amazing to see the happiness on their faces. They can understand Physics and the other Sciences! There's where the joy of learning begins. There will be times when the going is tough but the effort you put is what matters the most to me. It's inspiration from me as a tutor, but I know that the hard work is always done by my students as they gain more and more confidence through the weeks and months. The process is different for each and every student and hence I always prepare my lessons specifically tailored to the student. have had a most wonderful 'job' for more than 16 years! It has been very very rewarding, fun and memorable I celebrate with my students when they do well and encourage them when they stumble; like we all do from time to time. It matters a lot to me as a tutor that they give their best and that the student understands that we improve as we learn and we never stop learning in life. Meeting up from time to time with my former students, I am glad to know that my approach to learning has made a difference in how they view learning and excelling in both exams and in life. I taught my own three boys Science, Maths and French. I always insist on the element of fun. Enjoying what we do is key to acing it. The other thing I ask of them and my students is when it is time to work, give your all; focus. Having the right attitude to learning is very important. That's how my eldest is in the top 10% of his cohort each year in Medical School, my second son in Aerospace Engineering in a Russell Group university in London and my youngest with his 9A*s in his IGCSE and now happily preparing for his journey into medical school too. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Not a recent one but I had a CRB in 2006 when I volunteered in my youngest son's primary school as a Teaching Assistant. - Where and with whom did you train? I worked at my university as a Part Time Tutor. I was a partner in tuition centre. I have 'tutored' and encouraged my sons from young on how to approach a subject/topic/issue; the ways to learn new things, to have the curiosity and open mindedness to want to know more, to investigate further.; to question. I taught them to be able to analyse independently hence enabling them the capacity to plan and structure their answers to any exam question with confidence no matter how tough it may seem to be. This is the same approach for my students. - Tell me about some of your current students. I am pleased with all my students as I can see how much they have improved and are getting the grades/working towards it. They are much more confident in their studies when not so long ago, they were struggling in class. I see them jump levels in Science, Maths and French and the joy and sense of accomplishment as they tell me the good news. An example is a young boy in Year 5, who was overjoyed to have won the prize for French for year 5 and 6 combined. I am very proud of a student, a foster care child. He worked really hard and was so happy to have proven his teachers wrong by doing amazingly well in his GCSEs. Education for me is to better ourselves in knowledge and as a person.
