About Mayuko
I am a jazz trumpeter and music educator from Japan, and I recently earned my Master of Music in Jazz Performance from William Paterson University in New Jersey. I have over seven years of teaching experience, primarily through private lessons, working with students of various ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. As both an active performer and educator, I enjoy helping students develop not only technical skills but also confidence, creativity, and a deeper connection to music.
Over the years, I have taught students ranging in age from 5 to 67, including complete beginners, jazz students learning improvisation, and musicians involved in brass bands or orchestras. I have also worked with students facing social or educational challenges, which taught me the importance of patience, flexibility, and meaningful communication. I believe every student learns differently, so I always tailor lessons to each individual’s needs, goals, and pace.

My teaching approach focuses on building strong fundamentals such as tone, breathing, embouchure, rhythm, and musical expression, while creating a supportive and encouraging environment. Whether a student wants to improve technique, prepare for auditions, explore jazz improvisation, or simply enjoy making music, I strive to make lessons engaging, personalized, and enjoyable.
