About Shawki

I'm Shawki, a native Arabic speaker from Homs, Syria, based in Damascus. I hold a BA in English Language and Literature, I'm IELTS certified, and I'm fluent in English at C2 level. I've also spent years working with international organizations like the EU, USAID, and UNDP, where clear, patient communication across languages and cultures was part of daily work, not just a claim on paper.

I'm a strong believer in the comprehensible input method, since it's how I learned English and Spanish myself, and I build my Arabic lessons around that same idea: understanding first, speaking second. I also pay attention to the small differences that make speech sound natural rather than just correct.

Whether you're starting from zero or refining fluency, expect clear communication, steady pacing, and lessons built around your goals.

About the lesson

I'm a big fan of Comprehensible Input. I teach the Arabic people actually speak, not just textbook Arabic. Lessons blend spoken Levantine Arabic with Modern Standard Arabic when needed, built around what the student wants to say. I focus early on nuance, since that's usually what makes speech sound natural instead of just correct. Having learned English, Spanish, and French myself, I teach the way I'd have wanted things explained to me.

Standard lessons are 60 minutes. I also offer 30 or 45 minutes for beginners or younger students. So my time can be flexible depending on the needs.

Arabic is my native language (I'm from Homs, Syria). I hold a BA in English Literature, I'm IELTS certified, and I'm fluent in English at C2 level. I've spent years coordinating with international partners like the EU, USAID, and UNDP, where clear communication across languages and cultures was part of the job.

Mostly adults, from beginners to advanced learners working on fluency. That includes people learning for travel, work, or relationships, plus heritage speakers reconnecting with Levantine Arabic. I adjust pace and dialect/MSA balance to the student's goal.
