About Ernestine
I am a talented violin tutor with 9 years of experience teaching high school and college students. I have successfully mentored 300 to 350 students, helping them build strong technical skills and musical confidence. My teaching philosophy is rooted in collaboration, empathy, and open-mindedness, ensuring every learner learns in a supportive and understanding space. I focus on bow technique, intonation, and sight reading, while staying flexible with different musical styles to match learner interests. My teaching method for Violin, Music Theory, and Sight Reading centers on helping learners develop technical mastery while nurturing their personal connection to music. With nine years of experience guiding violinists, I have built a methodology that values working together, understanding each learner, and staying open to different musical paths.
Collaboration shapes much of how I teach. I often bring in ensemble style exercises, duet practice, or group sessions where possible, helping learners listen closely to others, match tuning and timing, and grasp how their playing fits within a larger musical setting, not just as a solo pursuit.
Empathy guides how I connect with every learner. Learning violin can be demanding, especially with bow technique and intonation, and I take time to grasp each learner's individual struggles and comfort level, adjusting my approach so they never feel pressured or discouraged during their learning path.
Open-mindedness is something I bring to every session. I stay flexible with different violin styles, whether classical, modern, or folk, and encourage learners to explore genres that interest them rather than following a single rigid teaching path, helping them build a more personal bond with the instrument.
My sessions typically begin with posture, bow hold, and finger positioning, followed by scales and simple melodies to build muscle memory. I introduce music theory early, including rhythm and note reading, to support their overall musical grasp.
As learners advance, I focus on refining intonation, tone quality, and more complex bow techniques, along with sight reading practice to build assurance with new pieces. For performance-focused learners, I also work on stage presence and interpretation.
I adjust my teaching to match each learner's personal goals, whether they play for enjoyment, prepare for exams, or work toward advanced musical achievement. My overall aim is to create a collaborative, empathetic, and open-minded space where every violin learner can grow with confidence.
