About Claudia

Science can feel overwhelming when it seems like a collection of facts to memorize. I help students move beyond memorization by understanding the concepts that connect biology, chemistry, and environmental science. Once students understand the "why," they become more confident and are able to solve problems independently.

With more than twenty years of teaching experience, I have worked with students from middle school through introductory college science. Every lesson is tailored to the student's goals, whether they are preparing for an exam, improving their grades, or building a stronger foundation in STEM. Together we identify areas of confusion, strengthen conceptual understanding, and practice applying those ideas through problems, diagrams, and real-world examples.

I strive to create a supportive, encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is not only to help students succeed in their current course but also to help them become more confident, independent learners.

About the lesson

I believe students learn science best when they understand why concepts work rather than simply memorizing facts or formulas. My goal is to help students develop confidence, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills so they can succeed both in their current course and in future STEM classes.

A typical lesson begins with identifying the student's goals and any concepts they find confusing. I use practice problems, diagrams, real-world examples, and guided questions to uncover misconceptions before building a deeper conceptual understanding. As students become more comfortable, we work through increasingly challenging problems together until they can explain the concepts independently.

What sets me apart is my combination of more than twenty years of classroom teaching experience and a PhD in Molecular Medical Neuropharmacology. I have taught students with a wide range of backgrounds and learning styles, from middle school through AP Biology and introductory college science. I specialize in making complex scientific ideas accessible while helping students become more independent learners. Rather than merely teaching students what to memorize, I teach them how to think like scientists.

I tutor middle school, high school, AP, and introductory college students in Biology, AP Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Anatomy & Physiology, and Neuroscience. I also enjoy helping students strengthen scientific reading, data analysis, and laboratory reasoning, which are essential skills for success in STEM courses.
