About Joshua
My name is Josh. I have been a passionate and committed musician for most of my life, and I have had a very rich and fulfilling music journey. For me, music is a journey of self-exploration and self-expression. My music journey has taken me to many incredible places, from busking and making scenic piano music videos in stunning locations, to having fun jamming with friends, playing on all kinds of stages with several bands, and exploring my own creative spirit with original piano/orchestral compositions and funky/jazz tracks.
I have recently been studying music and Otago University, to acquire the skills necessary to impart my knowledge and passion for music to others. I want to help you unlock your passion for music and start walking your own unique music.

My method is based on everything I wish I learned when I first started learning the piano. I value self-expression and creative exploration with music, so I teach the basics of the piano and the fundamental building blocks of music; everything you need to know to get started exploring the world of music.
We will systematically cover the basis: finger warm-ups, exercises, triads, arpeggios. These basics will be directed towards achieving a particular goal. We will choose some tunes that we will work on, and direct the lessons towards learning the techniques that will help you be able to play those tunes. The lessons will be based on what you want to achieve as a musician. My main goal is to instil the passion and love for music broadly, so that after my lessons, you will have the desire to explore music further.
The typical length of a lesson will be 30 minutes to 1 hour. I will accomodate the lessons to your needs.
I am currently completing my 3rd year at Otago University, studying a bachelor of music with a major in contemporary performance. I have completed a paper specifically on teaching music, and am equipped with all the teaching theory and skills to teach music. Most importantly, I am a very passionate musician, and I want to share this passion with others.
My lessons are best suited for ages from 16-30. The students I most want to help are people are always had an affinity for music but never got around to it. I want to foster this student's passion for music and give them everything they need to get started on their music journey.
