About Tyler

I've been working in the tech/software industry for the better part of the last 7 years of my career, periodically taking on students and teaching in my spare time. I'm very curious by nature and love both learning and educating.

While I am largely self-taught, I have a minor in music from the University of Texas at San Antonio, have attended multiple intensives, have gone through numerous online courses, and have taught students both on an ongoing basis and via one-off lessons.

Outside of my career and music, I invest a lot of time into meditation, reading, running/biking, and, when time allows, gaming. Soccer was also a big part of my life for many years but phased out following multiple injuries.

About the lesson

I'm a fun, patient, and compassionate teacher who is looking to help anyone grow as a player (and potentially as a person). While I am the one leading, I like to take more of a consultative and conversational approach, working with you to find a path to improvement. What that looks like will be different for everyone - I am always happy to share the logic behind taking a particular approach over an alternative.

I make a conscious effort to keep things light, creative, and useful, and am a big believer that our mindsets, mental states, and approaches directly impact our outcomes (whether we're aware of them or not). Mindfulness is a cornerstone in my life and as a result, I encourage bringing awareness and understanding of our thoughts and feelings to the practice to take the path of least resistance towards our goals. We should try to remember to work with the instrument, not against it.

While I believe I will serve as the most effective resource for beginner to intermediate players, I'm happy to work with anyone, as I believe we can all learn from each other.

My primary asks are that you come with an open mind and give the process an honest effort.

This first lesson offered with Tyler will allow you to get to know each other and clearly specify your needs for your next lessons.

Details

I typically charge $20 per 30-minute lesson and $30 per 1-hour lesson. Either duration covers a given topic (or aspect of a topic), with the shorter lesson being more concise while the latter is a bit more in-depth, allowing more time to work on things live.

I offer a free 30-minute intro session to meet each other, answer questions, and decide on next steps.

I use the in-platform conference tool and messaging for lessons and communication although, alternative accommodations can be made if necessary.
