About Caroline
Folk music became my world during those long days spent studying at the Old Town School of Folk Music. I hold a Certificate in Traditional Music.
Over 13 years of teaching, I have observed that imitation beats static notation every time. Learning by listening allows your internal rhythm to solidify naturally. I have taught a wide range of students who all share a desire to play music that feels alive.
My approach remains grounded in oral tradition rather than rigid formality. Expect a calm and patient space where we prioritize the sound over the stress.

Since you want to feel comfortable in a live setting, we begin with a diagnostic assessment to see exactly where you stand. You will learn to navigate the violin through tone production, posture, and shifting positions while using your own ears as the guide. Whether you are an absolute beginner, a returning learner, or preparing for grade exams, we focus on double stops and agility. We work on music theory and sight reading as tools to support your playing, not as hurdles to clear.
These 13 years of experience have shown me that listening is the secret to better intonation. You can expect to build a practice plan that respects your current level while pushing toward your ultimate goal of joining a jam session with confidence.
