About Kristen

I am currently a college student earning my first degree in Mass Communication. Although I am studying communications, I have been involved in live theatre and theatre production for 10 years now (since elementary school!). I have experience on-stage, in the classroom, backstage, and even up in the booth (though my expertise is not necessarily in technical theatre). I graduated from the Academy for the Fine Arts in Frederick, MD in May of 2019 with a concentration in theatre. Upon graduation, I also completed a capstone project that focused on Actors' movement and body discovery, which involved me teaching a week's worth of movement/acting lessons to my peers. In the classroom, I typically concentrate on:

~ Body Movement for Actors
~ Speech, Diction, and Projection
~ Monologue Prep
~ Audition Prep
~ Uta Hagen's Respect for Acting
~ Scene work
~ Suzuki Method of Actors' Movement.

About the lesson

My teaching method is very flexible and communicative with my students. I teach based on the philosophy that learning is a two-way street. If I am unable to successfully communicate with my students then there is no way that they will be able to learn and achieve their desires and goals upon day's end. Through listening and constructive feedback, I allow my classes to be interactive with the upmost most benefit to my students.

I gear my classes towards grade school (K-12) students. Essential content and materials used through a lesson are, of course, altered/modified based on the age group (I would not teach the same exact lesson to my first graders as I would to my twelfth graders).

A typical class may take the form below:
~ Physical ice-breakers (warm-up games, etc.)
~ Written or physical warm-up (depending on the class' instruction that day)
~ Essential Lesson w/ practice activities
~ Close-out w/ instruction items to work on at home (I do not give formal "homework" but rather a menu of activities/exercises for students to complete at home to enhance their understanding of the material if need be.)

*Note this is a basic structure I typically follow. The curriculum would, of course, be modified and extended upon once we consult about what it is that we are looking to enhance our knowledge on.
