About Tracey
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have had over 20 years experience of singing, performing and songwriting, with my first qualification being an A for music GCSE. I have had much voice tuition myself over the years, including the Speech Level Singing technique, and I have gleaned much from these tutors that I either include in my method -or have learnt not to!
I have individual and group workshop experience of teaching contemporary singing and musicality, working with a range of ages, backgrounds and abilities. I have worked with and performed alongside a school choir, along with other young peoples church singing groups. I have experience of performance coaching, stage direction and mentoring singers who wish to grow in confidence and leadership skills.
In addition, as someone with a number of years of recording and performance experience that has taken me all across the U.K., into Europe and America, I am experience-qualified to offer studio and performance preparation for anyone feeling they need help in either of these areas (references given on request). In this arena, I am proud to work on a regular basis with Sony award winning producer Shaun Lowe, of Prism Studios, Stoke-on-Trent and The Extreme Tour (Founder Ted Bruun) based in Nashville TN. Whilst in Nashville, I have been mentored under world-renowned Live music director Tom Jackson, with his "Live Music Method" approach.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
- Where and with whom did you train?
The Voice College, London.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Voice College, London.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a mixture of ladies, gents and children - some who are more professional, who come to me occasionally for a booster or just to check-in on their technique, to work on an aspect of tension release, or work on a song they are preparing to perform. Others have had some coaching before, while still others have had none. I also have some students who commit to regular coaching.
I also work with people who would class themselves as 'tone deaf', or SOS. As such, I am a coach who does not just take your money and run, but am alongside you in your journey to encourage outside of our lesson time, doing extra research to pass valuable help your way, should you need it.

Hi! I'm Tracey Taylor, an industry-standard qualified vocal coach in contemporary singing. Whatever your aspirations, hopes or dreams, I am a coach who walks alongside you in your journey, to encourage you inside -and outside- of our time together.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach contemporary singing. I can also coach guitar playing singers and teach guitar on request.
In addition I teach songwriting, performance technique and preparation, which can include looking at song/s -their approach and execution- in greater depth, vocal projection and studio recording preparation.
I have examples of my work uploaded in My Media section. They include a free voice "wakey warmup" video for you, a soundtrack giving an example of the songwriting and recording work I produce and two photos of my time in Nashville 2017. One is of me performing and the other picture is of myself with Wu Tang Clan member Lamont Compton, at a conference I attended. My role at this conference for the past two years has been as audition critique and mentor to aspiring musicians and songwriters. I can give references as evidence on request.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Pdip.TVC (Upper Merit) in Teaching Contemporary Singing from The Voice College in London, which enables me to teach singing to adults and children.
Being partnered with The Objective conference held in Nashville each year, I am regularly invited to go over to act as mentor to auditioning bands and artists on a one-to-one basis, and to critique performances for the upcoming "Extreme Tour" that takes place each summer across the east and west coasts. I also partake in workshops conducted by world renowned vocal coach (to the likes of Leona Lewis) Brett Manning, and world renowned band and stage director Tom Jackson.
My Professional Diploma Contemporary Singing qualification enables me to teach musicality (rhythm and movement, ear-training, beat, sound-analysis and more) and impart essential keys to natural singing and speaking, teaching how you can use your voice naturally, powerfully and effortlessly in singing and speaking as you understand how it works. Within my course of study I submitted papers on Jaques Dalcroze Education of rhythm and movement and the Feldenkrais Method and Voice, relating to "singing with your whole self" (Nelson & Blades-Zeller, 2002). As part of further in-depth study, I also touched on other therapies and methods including the Alexander Technique.
- How much do you charge?
VOCAL COACHING
I offer a FREE Initial Assessment + Consultation, usually lasting up to 20 minutes: The first time we meet, we have an initial 'meet and greet' that includes an assessment of your vocal ability from one or two songs you bring (either to backing music, instrument led or accapella). We talk about your strengths and areas to work on, your aims in singing and what your goals are.
Lessons are 30 mins = £15 or 1 hour = £30.
There is a 10% discount of the total of every six lessons that are booked and paid for in advance. I have a 24hr cancellation policy: If you cancel your lesson within this time, you will not be charged. If you wish to cancel your lesson giving less than 24hrs notice, you will be charged the full amount.
Group sessions are also available.
More information can be found on my website at (concealed information)
NB: If you are a singer who performs with a guitar and wants a combined lesson of vocal and performance technique, the pricing is the same.
GUITAR LESSONS
As an accomplished rhythm-guitarist, I also am available to give lessons on request.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at the Hummingbird premises in Congleton, county Cheshire and also provide online tutoring via Skype, FaceTime or ZOOM. Immediate towns nearby are Crewe, Sandbach, Holmes Chapel and Alderley Edge with Knutsford and Manchester not too far away. Cheshire is next to county Staffordshire, with Stoke-on-Trent just 25-30 minutes down the road. Manchester is approximately 30-40 minutes drive north from where I am.
I will travel out, but only in exceptional circumstances. This will incur an additional cost.
- When are you available?
Sessions are available Mondays - Fridays & Sundays (last booking taken at 7pm.)
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and all levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I have a very informal, relaxed approach, however should you wish to go a formally graded route, I can accommodate this.
I offer Hummingbird in-house grading as an alternative, endorsed by The Voice College, London.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I do have Skype, FaceTime and Zoom available for teaching online. Just enquire which one you would prefer to use.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
It doesn't matter whether you have had training before or are a complete beginner, or even consider yourself someone with little (or no) musicality at all. Let's work together and you'll see that nothing is impossible. I am a coach who does not just take your money and run, but am alongside you in your journey to encourage outside of our lesson time, doing extra research to pass valuable help your way, should you need it.
Best,
Tracey
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
I can really recommend Tracey from Hummingbird Coaching. Her natural enthusiasm for her subject is infectious and her knowledge of the voice and its mechanics is extremely impressive. I had asked Tracey to help me sustain a specific character voice whilst singing, she gave me a number of tips which I have found extremely useful. Many of the tips Tracey gave, I have put into practice professionally and have genuinely noticed how much easier I have found singing since working with her.
I am a professional singer and theatre performer. I had a session with Tracey and found it highly beneficial to recap over essential elements that help good tone, such as tension release for example.Tracey worked through exercises with me that challenged my vocal agility, worked my stamina and fine-tuned my ear to pitch. I continue to practice what I learnt and my performances have benefited as a result.
Tracey is a fantastic teacher. She takes a highly personalised approach to lessons. I was keen to work on vocal range and definitely extended it after just a few sessions. She made the theory element seemed interesting. I have been singing for a long time, but haven't ever been taught 'how to sing'. I would highly recommend Hummingbird Coaching.
I love to sing but have have throat problems for quite a while. This has really affected my range and amount of time I can spend singing.
Tracey came up with a "prescription exercises" regime for me to try out, based on her studies of vocal health within her course. I have really noticed a difference and my voice is slowly being nurtured back to health.
Tracey is more than just a singing teacher. She is an holistic vocal coach who can help in all kinds of areas.Tracey brings a range of teaching styles into her lesson time to accommodate different kinds of learners. For myself who predominantly learns through listening, I connected easily when Tracey explained things just through talking. However, Tracey brings a balanced approach in her teaching, involving visuals, objects, games, audio and movement, which caters for all kinds of different learners and broadens my learning skills at the same time. Tracey knows her subject and I highly recommend her.
I had a course of lessons from Trace. My vocals improved so much. She is an excellent, friendly and patient teacher and she made sure I had understood everything throughout the lessons. At the end of my course of lessons, my voice was so powerfull, reaching the range of notes I couldn't reach before. I loved every lesson and will be back for more!
Tracey is a lady with a special gifting to help people improve their singing. Try her out and you won't be disappointed.
I had some classical training as a teenager but I stepped away from singing for about 10 years.
I recently had some coaching with Tracey and I was pleased to learn that my training in classical singing proved a solid foundation for crossing over into the contemporary style of singing. Working with Tracey has really increased my confidence to step out and pursue more the love I have for singing. I have even joined a singing group! I would highly recommend Hummingbird Coaching.I had an hour long session with Tracey and it was great fun! I learnt lots and found it fascinating learning about the vocal mechanism and how it works. We did some fun exercises too! I learnt a lot about my voice, about my strengths and the Hummingbird (:D) gave me tips to help on areas that weren't so strong, too!
