About Valerie
Trained at UBC with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Spanish, a Bachelor of Education, specializing in teaching Spanish, Associate of Arts Degree from Langara College specializing in Latin American Studies and 7+ years teaching in a Spanish Bilingual International Spanish Academy public school in Calgary, AB.
I have also lived and studied Spanish in Guatemala, receiving a certificate for 300 hours of Spanish instruction. In addition, I studied at the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico where I took Latin American, Spanish and Caribbean Literature courses in Spanish as well as Advanced Spanish grammar.

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
When I was 14, I took a school trip to Mexico to volunteer in an orphanage. It was there I was surprised by my love for Spanish language and culture as well as for education.

What makes you passionate about your subject?
The culture, the people, the music, the diversity, the food and much more from the Spanish speaking countries I have travelled and lived in have sparked a love for the language and regions .

What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I love to share my passion for the Spanish language and want to help my students fall in love with not just the language but also all the intricacies of what come with learning a language.

Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
I felt very inspired by my literature Latin American History instructors in university.

Commitment, curiosity and a desire to learn all contribute to success in learning a language.
