About Arindam

Hello! I'm Arindam — a passionate drummer, performer, and educator with over 9 years of professional experience in the music industry and 6 years of online teaching experience, mentoring students both across India and internationally.

Originally from Siliguri, West Bengal, I come from a rich musical lineage. My mother, Mrs. Subhra Chowdhury, is an All India Radio artist and an Indian Classical Music teacher. Growing up in a musical environment, I developed a deep connection with rhythm and performance from a young age.

In 2024, I relocated to Mumbai to further pursue music professionally. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to perform live with renowned Bollywood playback singer Shahid Mallya, along with previous freelance collaborations with artists like Rahul Jain. These experiences have enriched my understanding of live performance and industry dynamics — something I integrate into my lessons.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

In our stressful daily life we often miss out on figuring out our strong points, the potentials we have. Drumming is not just a fun instrument to groove around on your favourite songs but it's highly effective in keeping our physical and mental health fit which is a concern for the coming days. Unlike any other instruments, playing drums is more of creating a balance between your body and mind and not just getting creative around the instrument and playing some blazing-fast chops. Learning drums has always been my top priority or just like your favourite workout in the gym. Learning any instrument requires passion and dedication and drumming attracts all of these aspects perfectly. My journey of Music started from my Mother Mrs. Subhra Chowdhury who is an Indian Classical and Nazrul Geet singer and educator and my interest on playing Drums developed back in my childhood days when I started moving my hands on Tabla and felt the excitement of Indian rhythms and as time went by I started exploring more about Western drumming and saw some insane drummers in my city. Gradually I got addicted to this instrument and started maintaining a discipline on it.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

My mother is the biggest motivation in shaping my music career and I chose teaching this craft not just to deliver my ideas to the learners but I also believe teaching is a form of self learning and I felt the moment I started teaching I developed a more friendly personality and had a clear vision of my own learning and every student's way of thinking and their creativity inspired me every moment and hence helping them learn in a more fun, friendly way and not just having a hard and fast teacher and student rule."Learning music should feel like a sport, not a classroom".
  • How does your work help society?

We all know how much we are forced to participate in the daily rat race and with this we forget our own potential. our talents. our likes and dislikes. Learning an instrument would not only help you become a better musician but also would help you fight your daily mental stress during your leisure time. Drumming plays a crucial role in mental health as well as physical health which is not less than a concern nowadays.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

My parents and my mentors are the biggest role models for wherever I stand today. My parents taught me to become a better human being and supported me during the ups and downs while pursuing my career in this field. My mom is my biggest music teacher and I can't be thankful enough for it. My mentors kept me motivated and shaped me into a more fine-tuned being and a focused learner/musician.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I love singing during my leisure time. Travelling is the best way for me to relax myself from the daily chaos. I love reading books and learning new things everyday.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

Back in the days when I started teaching. I remember how awkward I was to attend the sessions and to communicate with my students. Slowly time went by, I developed more powerful communication skills, a friendly tutor personality and built a disciplined structure of teaching for my students. Now it feels great to see my students playing, getting creative on the instrument, giving Trinity Grade exams, and scoring good marks in this field. I feel more energised and motivated in teaching my students and can literally spend all my day understanding students' emotions and making learning more effective.

Thanks to Superprof for helping teachers and students connect across the globe.
