About Luzia
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience teaching children from different academic backgrounds, at varying skill levels and with different tuition needs. Past clients have included very academic students attending fee-paying schools who wanted an extra challenge outside of the classroom, as well as students with confidence issues, and those who were unable to get the maximum benefit from classroom teaching for a variety of reasons. I always tailor content to each student's needs, and I do my utmost to make sure content is presented in an engaging way, whilst also focusing on achieving the best results possible within a given time frame. I also work with pupils' parents to make sure everyone stays in the loop, and progress is as rapid as possible.
Professionalism and results are my top priorities - I am passionate about what I do and I want students to get the most out of every single lesson. There is nothing more rewarding than a pupil achieving his/her goals!
I also work with agencies, including Ivy Education and Communicate Well.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an enhanced DBS certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I have a BEng degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Neuroscience from UCL. I have also attended seminars on providing tuition for 7/8/11+ exams. I currently work as a Postdoc at UCL.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have taken a bit of a break from tutoring, as I spent most of 2017/18 in Norway working as a Postdoc and only recently returned to the UK. Before leaving for Norway, I taught students ranging from those wanting to prepare for GCSEs or A-levels to primary school kids who were looking to get that little bit of an extra boost by practising numeracy skills in a playful manner.

- Do you have a personal message for students?
I work as a tutor because I truly enjoy it: Being able to be part of my students' journeys towards exam success is a truly rewarding experience. It also gives me an opportunity to share my enthusiasm for maths and science, and hopefully kindle the same passion in others! Besides focusing on exam prep, I also think it's really important to develop good studying habits and I would say this is central to the way I teach. One of the great things about working as a tutor is that I get to work on a one-to-one basis, which enables me to provide tailor-made content for each student.
