About Alexandra

Hi, my name is Alexandra! I am a second-year English Literature BA student at University College London (UCL) with a top International Baccalaureate Diploma score and excellent essay-writing and literary skills. I am the Lead Undergraduate Representative for my degree and have 6 years of experience working with children and tutoring. I am also DBS-checked and speak French. A fun fact about me is that I also really enjoy singing, acting, and dancing. I have held multiple leadership roles in my academic journey thus far, including National Honour Society Eco-Schools Chair, SGIC Vice-President, SGIC President, Model United Nations Environmental Delegate, and newspaper Editor-in-chief at my school. At UCL I am Lead Undergraduate Representative for my degree (of around 100 students), English BA Representative within the Staff-Student Consultative Committee, and Events Coordinator at the Musical Theatre Society. These roles give me excellent communication and organisational abilities that, alongside my hard work ethic and dedication, support my tutoring. To apply to UCL I went through UCAS which gave me great and rigorous experience understanding the university entrance exam and application process. I have additionally shown my academic passion, professionalism and calibre through the participation of four summer schools, one of which was via scholarship to study History of Art at Somerville College, Oxford University and earned me the 'Best Presentation Award' at the end of the course.

About the lesson

I am able to tutor classes for children of ages between 10-18. I am flexible in my tutoring options, and can offer tutoring on English in the school curriculum (e.g. for Key Stage 2 onwards), A-Level or IB English support (such as essay-writing skills, literacy, reading and comprehension), and university entrance preparation for English Literature or English Language and Literature degrees or others (e.g. Personal Statement or entrance exam support). I am also able to provide sessions to those wanting to improve their fluency in English as a second or foreign language, from ages 8+. I focus attentively on tailoring my classes and lessons to the individual as I believe any rigidly pre-set ideas surrounding teaching can defeat the purpose of tutoring and working one-on-one. For this reason, I think it is important to understand the individual student's academic goals and position to encourage them to pursue their own ambitions within or through the discipline. My priority is to ensure my students are learning in a comfortable and academically supportive environment, and so I always do my best to build a sensitive awareness of the student's personality and distinctive attributes with regards to teaching and academia. My experience in tutoring, teaching, and working with students and children between ages 2-18 has spanned over 6 years. For example, I was President of the SGIC group at my school where I led the teaching, organisation, and planning of lessons in English, Art, and Science to children between 8-10. I have also been a nanny in the past year, and have experience tutoring Geography, English, and History (with attention to essay-writing skills) to 15 year-olds. Lessons with me are usually 1 hour, although I am flexible with their outline and duration if you would like to contact me with specific requests or concerns.
