About Luca

I’m a language teacher and Italian enthusiast from Cape Town, South Africa. I studied Italian Language and Literature at the University of Cape Town and have been studying Italian for almost ten years. My studies included both Italian and English literature, which gave me a strong interest in how language works, as well as in Italian culture and literature.
Alongside teaching English and Italian, I have also worked in translation for humanitarian organisations such as EMBODE, using Italian professionally in a real-world context.
I have extensive experience teaching adults and professionals, and I particularly enjoy helping students move beyond textbook Italian and develop a natural, confident way of speaking. I’m interested in literature, history, travel, culture, current affairs and everyday life, so there is always plenty to talk about.
I’m patient, adaptable and very attentive to what each student needs. I like lessons to be structured and purposeful, but also flexible enough that we can follow an interesting conversation when one develops naturally.

About the lesson

My approach combines a strong academic background in Italian with extensive experience teaching English. Having studied Italian for almost ten years, as well as Italian and English literature at university, I can explain not only what sounds natural in Italian, but why certain words, expressions and collocations are used.
My pronunciation and accent are highly polished, and I place a strong emphasis on helping students speak naturally and accurately. Lessons are structured around speaking, but I adapt them constantly to the student's level, interests and goals. This keeps lessons fluid and genuinely interactive rather than making them feel like a fixed programme.
I provide detailed notes after every lesson, along with plenty of resources and homework so that you can continue working independently between classes. Whether you need to build your foundations, improve your fluency, prepare for an exam or refine your Italian at an advanced level, I tailor the lessons to what you actually need.
