About John
While I was studying my GCSEs I found a lot of joy in helping my peers in their work meaning that in year 12/13 I began tutoring for Maths and Science GCSE. With 2 years of experience now I have gained a good understanding of what different students need and the steps that they need to take to succeed, while also being close enough to my own exams to remember what they were like and understand the struggle it can sometimes be to just get 1 or 2 hours of revision done.
I know that a lot of the time GCSEs and A levels can feel really dull, especially in GCSEs where you might not have even wanted to do maths or science in the first place, but I think that everyone can find enjoyment in it and I hope that my way of teaching, while very focused around exams and your own progress, can show you enough of the subject to at least see some joy in it (and hopefully get you to continue to be interested after your exams are over!).
Additionally, I'm working towards Level 1 Qualification in BSL.

Looking for GCSE Science/Maths students and A-level Maths students, whether aiming for high grades (7/8/9/A/A*) or looking for a passing grade. Experienced in tutoring both types of students.
1 hour weekly sessions is my default, however happy to increase frequency/length of sessions to your needs.
My focus in sessions for most students (especially A-level) is doing practice questions and papers, especially in less content heavy subjects (Maths and Physics), but I also will often go through purely content in a session if needed. Most lessons I teach mostly concern going through past paper questions, or preferably, students bringing in their own questions that they've attempted and going through them together, trying similar questions and highlighting the strong and weak points the student has in the subject (i.e. where to focus their revision).
I have a lot of experience helping both peers and students sort out revision timetables and techniques that work for them. My system is very adaptable, and catered to each student. My most successful students use a large spreadsheet with lots of data for their revision, but I know that can be daunting and confusing to a lot of students so I can also create (in collaboration with the student) simple revision techniques and timetables that are most importantly achievable, and also effective at achieving your target grade. I've found that a lot of students struggle with making an achievable timetable first and foremost, and when they succeed in that often make their timetable too rigid so that as their needs change, my systems help avoid this by making adaptable and achievable timetables.
I am currently going into my first year at the University of Leeds studying BA Geography with Transport Studies. I have previously received all 8s/9s in GCSEs and AAB in A levels (Maths, Physics, Geography).
