My Approach as a Tutor
Teaching Method & Techniques
I believe that true understanding beats memorization. My teaching style is based on building strong foundational concepts using interactive slideshows that break down big ideas into manageable pieces. Each slideshow focuses on one core concept and includes real-world examples and application-based practice problems to reinforce the material. I avoid teaching shortcuts or surface-level tricks—instead, I help students learn why something works so they can apply it in any situation.
A Typical Lesson Plan
- Concept Introduction
We begin with a short, visually engaging slide deck introducing the topic (e.g., photosynthesis, linear equations, Newton's laws).
I use analogies, questions, and visual models to relate abstract ideas to everyday life.
- Guided Practice
After the concept is explained, students work through 2–3 carefully chosen problems that demonstrate how the concept applies in real scenarios.
We pause often to talk through mistakes, ask "what if" questions, and reinforce deeper understanding.
- Application Challenge
Students tackle a more advanced or open-ended problem on their own with minimal guidance.
This helps develop independence and critical thinking skills.
- Recap & Next Steps
We close with a review of key takeaways and a preview of the next lesson, sometimes leaving a “cliffhanger” question to encourage curiosity.
- What Sets Me Apart
I don’t just prepare students for tests—I help them learn how to learn. My background in science fair research, competitive academics, and tutoring has taught me that curiosity, not cramming, leads to success. I teach general understanding, not just the quickest way to solve a problem. This gives my students a long-term edge, especially in math and science.
- Who the Lessons Are For
Middle and high school students looking to get ahead in math and science. Students preparing for honors, AP, or early college-level classes. Learners who feel like they “don’t get it” with traditional methods and want a more interactive, curiosity-driven approach.
