About Alice

I have always loved languages since I first started learning them when I was at school myself. I draw on my own experience as a learner of languages from a student perspective to guide learners on common mistakes and find ways to overcome any difficulties and increase confidence. (I often found learning grammar through repeated grammar exercises boring and too complicated, so in my teaching practice I try to vary ways of learning grammar).

As with most learning, successful acquisition of language comes from practice and repetition, so I plan my lessons in a way that incorporates lots of prior learning through engaging activities and tasks, combined with exam practice skills covering all four language areas.

I like finding fun and innovative ways to teach languages, so that students are not even aware that they are learning. This might include using different resources, such as whiteboards, interactive tasks, music, sport etc.

About the lesson

I completed my teacher training via the TeachFirst programme from 2020-2022. I am also able to teach/tutor Italian.
With two years teaching experience in a Secondary School in South London, I have taught the GCSE curriculum (AQA), and KS3 curriculum (years 7-9) and have experience in primary teaching. I have experience of teaching my classes remotely during covid, and currently teach French online to overseas students. I have taught students of mixed abilities (including students with SEN/neurodivergent needs).
I am able to quickly determine what kind of support or learning an individual might need in order to progress. I adapt my teaching pace and approach accordingly to work through any specific areas of difficulty, and increase confidence where needed, whilst always striving to provide stretch and challenge. I teach and plan lessons that are fun, engaging and specifically curated to the individual needs and wants of the student, whether that is a focus on exam skills or to improve speaking confidence. I carefully track progress and provide regular feedback, so students can take ownership of their own learning!
