About Thomas
I am a University of California professor of English and American Literature, and an adjunct professor at Wilmington University and Corporate University, who has taught for many years in Universities of California, state universities, colleges, and Pre-K-12 schools, both in regular and special education, including undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate, both in the classroom and online. I have two special education teaching credentials. One qualifies me as an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) specialist, and the other as a generalist. At all levels of education, including through postgraduate, I have successfully worked with students who have standard and different needs, including students who have ADHD, ADD, emotional concerns, et cetera. I also have many years of experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and Sheltered courses. I have taught Shakespeare, Classical Grecian and Roman Literature, Poetry, Short Stories, Novels, Composition, Philosophy, Research and Writing Research Papers, etc. I have also taught students to prepare for the reading and writing sections of the PSAT, SAT, CBEST, Regents, etc.

My philosophy of teaching is this: Learning has relevance and significance as it may relate to hands-on, real-world experience. Students learn through immersion in trial-and-error problem solving in applying the new concepts introduced to them. Effective problem solving indicates understanding. Each student, whether learning applies to one student, 30, or more at a time, must be approached on an individual level to ensure understanding the material through practices that provide the most positive outcomes for each student. The indicator that the student is learning is enjoyment of the ongoing enrichment as indicated through ongoing checking for understanding.
