About Jackson

Jackson has been composing and performing music for over 10 years. He has numerous awards from the Langley Community Music School as well as Douglas College for his pieces. Most recently an orchestral work of his has been read by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for their annual Jean Coulthard readings. Apart from purely classical music, Jackson also performs regularly in a pop band in Vancouver called Orchid Orchestra and an in-house jazz trio for Douglas College's graduation ceremonies. Jackson's passion for writing and playing translates directly to the way he teaches. No matter what kind of piece, or what level it is, he tries to find something the student can be excited about.

About the lesson

We will primarily use RCM, Faber, and university textbooks (for university level students) as a groundwork for the structure of both the theory and piano lessons. Lessons are intended to prepare students for an examination or recital, however this may not apply to all students. Ear-training is essential for both.

Formals analysis of seminal works from classical to the pop canon will be studied as well as harmony and voice-leading.

Piano lessons will focus on theory/technique for half and repertoire for the second half. Students will generally be working on 4 pieces at a time but this may vary.
