About Alexandra

I am a student at Edinburgh university studying Biotechnology, however, my passions and interests have always been deeply rooted in drawing. I won an acclaimed art prize at Rodean School South Africa, and since then my passion has flourished.

I am currently working side-by-side with a South African artist in Edinburgh named Greg Lourens. He specialises in portraits with a variety of mediums and is a very well known South African artists. He has taught me many things with I wish to impart on my students.

About the lesson

Many people think that drawing is all about the outcome, many others say its all about the progress, but I think that it starts way before all of that. To be a skilled drawer, especially in the respect of realism, one needs to practise with exercises that improvise hand-eye coordination and link both sides of the brain. Having mastered the stability of your hand and the connection with your brain with made your drawing ability far more advanced.

My teaching methodology is not teaching you how to draw, but helping you find which technique best suits you and develop that technique with you. However, I will also provide advice on learning new techniques.

A large focus of my lessons is to improve biological responses to drawing. Through different exercises, you will be able to improve your drawing through the improvement of your hand muscle memory and neural connections! This all sounds a bit far fetched, but it has been tried and tested and has allowed me to take my drawings to a whole new skill level.
