I always start by assuming that the student knows nothing. Then I make sure to teach the fundamentals as simply as I can. People always make the mistake of underestimating the fundamentals but they are the foundation of a building, without a steady foundation, no matter how well you try to build the rest of the building, it is doomed. With an excellent foundation, building the rest will be a piece of cake.
