About Gigi

I hold a Bachelor of Mathematics in Statistics from the University of Waterloo, where I graduated with distinction.

Beyond my academic background, I have six years of professional experience as a (Senior) Data Scientist, during which I presented, visualized, and communicated highly complex mathematical and statistical concepts and systems to audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge, making them simple, clear, and engaging.

I also have two years of tutoring and teaching experience, delivering both group lessons and one-on-one sessions, during which my students achieved excellent results in their final exams - including the ones who never went to a single lecture (which I do not encourage!).

1. Visualize the abstract. Make the invisible visible.

From a “black box” to a “white box.”

I'm a visual teacher who creates carefully designed diagrams and presentations to guide you through mathematical concepts step by step. By making abstract ideas and formulas visible and intuitive, I help you see what's happening beneath the surface — making concepts easier to understand, remember, and apply.

2. Simplify the complex. Make mathematical jargon intuitive.

Mathematics comes with its fair share of definitions, notation, and jargon. While precision is essential, understanding doesn't have to mean memorizing complicated explanations word for word. I use creative, intuitive explanations, helpful memory aids, and efficient techniques to make mathematical concepts easier to grasp and apply, especially in exams.

3. Catch the gaps early. Strengthen your foundations.

Textbooks often assume you already understand the concepts underlying each topic. When those foundations are shaky, difficulties can resurface in new topics and compound over time. I identify gaps in your mathematical understanding early and address them with targeted practice. We revisit these foundations in future lessons to reinforce your understanding over time, rather than treating each mistake as an isolated incident.

4. Learn to solve problems you've never seen before.

When we work through a problem together, I teach you the underlying methods and strategies that allow you to tackle a wide range of variations. After all, professors love to surprise us in exams! My goal isn't just to help you get through today's question. It's to develop your transferable problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking, so you can confidently approach unfamiliar questions and more advanced concepts in the future.

5. Flexible teaching that adapts to your needs.

Every student has different needs and goals. Some prefer to take their time building a solid understanding of the fundamentals, while others need focused, exam-oriented preparation under time pressure. I adapt my teaching approach to your needs, learning pace, and priorities — whether that means building a stronger foundation or preparing strategically for an upcoming exam.

6. A teacher who's in your corner.

Throughout the process, I encourage my students, celebrate their progress, and help them recognize what they're capable of — even when they can't see it themselves yet.
