About Thea

I’m a vocal coach with 7 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, specializing in Lieder and Art Song. Over time, my passion has expanded to include jazz and blues vocal improvisation, where creativity and technique meet in exciting ways. I help singers of all levels develop their own improvisational voice through scat singing, melodic embellishment, and advanced harmony. My lessons are personalized, structured, and musically rich. We explore how scales and chords shape your choices, applying theory directly to real vocal lines. I place strong emphasis on ear training to help you recognize harmonic shifts and respond with freedom. Whether you’re just starting to explore jazz or refining your skills, we work at a pace that supports growth and expression. Alongside improvisation, I also help students strengthen their vocal technique and overall performance presence. Breathing, support, and tone shaping are key parts of our practice. I create a relaxed space where exploration is encouraged and mistakes become stepping stones. My goal is to help you build confidence and musical awareness while finding your personal style. Together, we’ll unlock the tools you need to improvise with precision and soul. Let’s dive into the art of vocal storytelling—improvised and uniquely yours.

About the lesson

My teaching approach focuses on training the ear as much as the voice. I believe that accurate pitch, strong harmony skills, and interval recognition are essential for confident singing. Every lesson is designed to help you hear clearly and sing what you hear. Whether you're learning to sing in a group or as a soloist, a trained ear gives you control and freedom.

We use targeted exercises to develop your sense of pitch. This includes call-and-response singing, interval matching, and guided harmony practice. I also use apps, backing tracks, and live keyboard support to strengthen real-time listening skills. You'll learn how to identify notes, intervals, and chords by ear.

For harmonizing, we work on blending, balance, and tonal awareness. I offer lots of practice in duet, trio, and quartet formats to build your group singing skills. I'm especially good at helping The Advanced Teen and The Quartet Player tune in to others and hold their part with confidence.

I give clear and kind feedback in every session so you always know how you're progressing. My goal is for you to sing in tune effortlessly, no matter the setting. Together, we'll build strong listening habits that support expressive, accurate singing. When your ear is trained, your voice follows naturally.
