With a new student, I like to go through the topics briefly and try to catch what they need the most help with, as well as asking them what they struggle with. I like to focus on these areas, but also making sure to come back to all topics/skills. I like to engage the student as well to ensure that they can apply what I have taught them. With HSC students specifically, I will often go through past papers or ask the student to find specific questions they struggle with and go through them. Sometimes, I will supply homework if necessary, but only if the student has the capacity to do it and not increase their stress too much.
