About Elise

I am a language lover. I also love traveling and experiencing other cultures which I get to do a lot of as a language professional as I get to interact with people from all over the world. I took a long detour and did a law degree but eventually found my way back to languages which has always been my first love. Besides languages I enjoy sports particularly F1 motorsport & Tennis.

About the lesson

I am a TEFL certified tutor with over 10 years experience of teaching both English and Swahili to individuals of all language levels. I am a native Swahili speaker from Tanzania with strong links to and knowledge of Kenya as well. As I love learning new languages, I have higher-basic level knowledge of French and Korean and I also know some very basic Japanese. Besides being a tutor, I am also a freelance language service provider running my own consulting business and I have worked with agencies, different institutions, individuals etc. in that capacity.

Elise has been curating lessons and teaching me and my brother for a few weeks now and I have no complaints whatsoever! She is astute and well versed in Swahili and has been able to curate the lesson plans very well and has been a fantastic tutor. Definitely recommend her if you’re trying to learn Swahili or polish up!

I've been having weekly hour-long lessons with Elise for just over three months in preparation for a research trip to Tanzania next year. I think most of her students have some knowledge of swahili but as a total beginner she has been great for me, and I feel we have been going through basic topics at a good pace. She's very friendly and her lessons are grammar focused, which I like, though there is some conversation as well. Have a look at the book Simplified Swahili by Peter Wilson if you want to get a feel for the topics covered. Thoroughly recommend!
