About Andrea

My musical life begins and develops in the Venezuelan system "El Sistema", where I received violin lessons with professors Huang Shun Hsin and Zenón Díaz at the El Sistema branch in Mérida, and with professors Sergio Celis and José Francisco del Castillo at the prestigious Latin American Violin Academy in Caracas; I also acted as concertmaster of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Mérida, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Chacao and the Youth Symphony Orchestra Miranda. Academically, I received training at the School of Music of the Universidad de Los Andes, the Simón Bolívar Conservatory and the National Experimental University of the Arts. In 2008, I enrolled in the Music School Mozarteum Caracas to study chamber music with the pianist Arnaldo Pizzolante, and to continue my violin studies with Professor Richard Biaggini. I was a member of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, and I made several tours with the Symphonic Orchestra of Venezuelan Youth Simón Bolívar under the direction of maestro Gustavo Dudamel. In 2011 I was invited to play in the first violins section of the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia. I have participated in several chamber and summer music festivals, including the Annual Chamber Music Festival at the Mozarteum Caracas Music School, the Lenk Summer Festival and Masterclasses in Switzerland, and the prestigious Aspen Music Festival. I have had the honor of receiving master classes with the following professors: Marylou Speaker Churchill, Donald Weilerstein, Markus Dahner, Felicitas Hoffmeister, Adelina Oprean, Alex Kerr, David Perry, Sylvia Rosenberg, Yuval Yaron, Philip Setzer and Adam Han-Gorski. In the autumn of 2015 I studied a semester in Vienna with the violinist Barbara Gorzynska in the IES Abroad program. I received my Bachelor of Music from Westmont College, studying with Professor Han Soo Kim and playing the role of Concertino of the Westmont orchestra and as the first violin of various ensembles. I am currently starting a master's degree in musical interpretation at the prestigious School of Music of Catalonia with maestro Kai Gleusteen, concertmaster of the Liceu orchestra.

About the lesson

When I teach, I always have three things in mind:

1) I want the student to get the technical tools to play a piece/song with ease (either classical or popular).

2) I want them to connect with Music and with the universal emotions that can be expressed through it.

3) I want them to learn an organization method or a mental structure to achieve musical goals; it is a given that this structure will help them achieve goals in any aspect of life.

I tremendously enjoy working with my students, and I feel incredibly proud when they themselves notice their achievement of a goal, a job well done, or their creativity/curiosity being stimulated. During the lessons I like them to feel safe, listened to, and guided, so our time together is a time for musical and personal growth.
