About Ivy
I’m a violin tutor with over 6 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in Composition (Violin Focus). I specialize in crossover styles, including Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop Strings, and World Music. My lessons are hands-on, emphasizing improvisation, creative expression, and the use of looping pedals and effects for live performance.
I guide students in composing solos, arranging contemporary pieces, and experimenting with tone, texture, and phrasing. Lessons also explore looping and layering to create full, dynamic performances. I encourage students to adapt popular songs in their own style and explore new sonic possibilities.
Every session is tailored to the student’s goals and creative vision. I focus on technique, artistry, and musical imagination. My goal is to help students develop a distinctive voice on the violin.

My teaching approach combines violin technique with applied music theory. I cover scales, keys, intervals, and chord theory on the fingerboard to give students a clear understanding of music structure. This approach helps students see patterns and make sense of repertoire.
I guide learners to apply theory directly to their playing. Exercises, etudes, and pieces all connect to scales, intervals, and chords. Students develop better intonation, phrasing, and musical interpretation.
