About Janet
I have gained experience in teaching for more than 10 years. This does not only include private students of all levels and ages, I was also invited to teach at the Verbier Festival Amateur Chamber Music Week (adults/individual lessons/chamber music), coaching the viola section of the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra and teaching in chamber music camps for children and adolescents at the Foundation Villa Jolimont (individual lessons/chamber music). Furthermore, I was a jury member of the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra auditions. Besides ABRSM exams of different levels, my students have also passed auditions for the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO). Apart from being a session musician for Britain’s Got Talent, I was highly privileged to play orchestral projects under Bernhard Haitink, David Zinman, Howard Griffiths, Kristjan Järvi, Nello Santi, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Beat Furrer, Tadeusz Wojciechowski and Stefan Asbury in concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tonhalle Zurich, Smetana Hall Prague, Ljubljana Philharmonic, Slovak National Theatre, Stefaniensaal Graz and Aya Irene Istanbul. Furthermore, I was invited to perform at festivals such as the Verbier Festival, the Davos Festival, Tage der Neuen Musik Tonhalle Zurich (contemporary music) as well as at the Baloise Session: a pop, jazz and world music festival with guests like Iggy Pop, Tom Jones, Pink, Tori Amos, Bryan Ferri and Norah Jones including international live television broadcasts. Also, I was awarded grants from the foundations Paul Hindemith (Chamber Music Academy), Animato (Orchestra Academy under Howard Griffiths), Bruno Schuler, Erna & Curt Burgauer and from the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum Salzburg. My education entailed studies under Wilfried Strehle (former 1st solo violist of the Berlin Philharmonic) at the University of the Arts Berlin as well as at the Zurich University of the Arts under Michel Rouilly (1st solo violist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich), Matthias Enderle (1st violin of the Carmina Quartet), Robert Zimansky (soloist/precedent 1st concert master of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra), and Wendy Enderle-Champney (viola of the Carmina Quartet). Simultaneously, I have studied chamber music for 6 years under the Carmina Quartet. In addition to this, I have attended masterclasses with Nobuko Imai (Academy Tibor Varga Sion), Wilfried Strehle (International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum Salzburg), Anna Serova (European Academy for Music and Performing Arts Montepulciano), Bernhard Forck (specialised in playing baroque style), Thomas Riebl and Pedrag Katanic (International Summer Academy Bad Leonfelden). I am very happy to play a violin by François Lupot from 1780 and a viola by Oreste Candi from 1926.

Together, we discover the infinite possibilities of producing nice sound and musical creativity, as well as different methods for efficient practising. I am looking forward to sharing my inspiration and passion with you! No matter whether you just decided to learn violin or viola, you are already a passionate player, or you are an entire chamber music group, I am looking forward to listening to you and work with you to improve your sound, musicality and technique. I am happy to prepare you for all grades of ABRSM, Trinity Music Board, GCSE & A level performances and orchestral auditions. However, as music theory is part of some of these exams, I will also be happy to prepare you in that regard. My approach towards teaching and playing has been greatly influenced by my former professor Wilfried Strehle, 1st solo violist of the Berlin Philharmonic since the era of Herbert von Karajan. Furthermore, I highly admire Aida Stucki's school of sound production which has its origin in the school of Carl Flesch. Aida Stucki was Anne-Sophie Mutter's most influential teacher and I was very lucky to study with two other former students of hers. However, this is only a basic approach since firstly, I shape my style of teaching to suit each student's needs individually, and secondly, the most important thing while playing is that you enjoy the way you learn in a positive atmosphere to achieve your personal goals whilst obtaining a solid technical foundation.
