About Freya
I am a violin tutor with over 6 years of teaching experience. I work with school students, college students, and working professionals. I have successfully taught around 250 students. Many of my students have cleared graded exams, performed in orchestras, and gained confidence in solo performances. My teaching philosophy is built on integrity, real-life application, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. I focus on proper posture, bow control, intonation, and expression. I also teach sight-reading, music theory, and ear training. I use examples from professional performances to explain techniques. I encourage students to add their own expression and explore different styles. I adapt my lessons to each student's goals and learning pace. I am patient and supportive. I celebrate progress and guide students through challenges. I am proud of my students' growth and their love for music. My goal is to develop skilled, confident violinists who enjoy playing.

My teaching approach for violin is guided by five principles: integrity, real-life examples and case studies, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. I believe violin is a beautiful and challenging instrument that requires patience, consistent effort, and a supportive teacher. My goal is to help students develop strong technique, musical understanding, and a genuine love for playing. Integrity is the foundation of my teaching. I am honest about progress. I give clear, constructive feedback and never pretend a student is ready for something they are not. I also respect their time and effort. I set realistic goals and explain the purpose behind every exercise. This builds trust and keeps the learning process transparent. Real-life examples and case studies are central to my lessons. I show students how professional violinists approach their craft. I use recordings and videos to demonstrate bowing, phrasing, and expression. I share stories from my own experience and from past students. When a student faces a difficult passage or technique, I refer to similar cases and explain how others overcame those challenges. This makes learning relatable and less intimidating. Creativity is encouraged in every lesson. I do not want students to just play notes. I teach them how to add dynamics, vibrato, and personal expression. I also introduce improvisation exercises to help them explore the instrument freely. This makes practice more enjoyable and helps them find their unique voice. Flexibility ensures I adapt to each student's pace, goals, and learning style. Some students prefer classical music. Others love folk or pop. Some learn quickly while others need more time. I adjust my methods, materials, and lesson structure to suit each individual. Collaboration is key. I treat students as partners in their learning journey. We discuss goals, repertoire, and practice plans together. I encourage them to share their thoughts and preferences. This builds motivation and engagement.
My methodology covers a wide range of violin subjects. Technique is a major focus. I teach proper posture, bow hold, left-hand position, finger placement, and bowing techniques like legato, staccato, spiccato, and martelé. I use scales, arpeggios, and etudes to build strength and precision. Intonation is carefully developed. I use ear training, drone practice, and finger pattern exercises to help students play in tune. I also teach shifting and vibrato gradually. Sight-reading is included to build reading fluency. I use progressive materials to help students recognize notes, rhythms, and dynamics quickly. Music theory is woven into lessons to deepen understanding of key signatures, time signatures, intervals, and chord progressions. Repertoire is chosen to match each student's taste and level. I cover classical, folk, jazz, and contemporary styles. I teach phrasing, bow control, and expression to make performances musical.
Ear training is integrated into every session. I use call-and-response, interval recognition, and melodic dictation to sharpen listening skills. Improvisation is introduced for students who want creative freedom. I teach basic scales and patterns to help them create their own melodies. Performance preparation is another subject. I help students build stage confidence, manage nerves, and develop stage presence. I conduct mock performances and give constructive feedback. Each lesson follows a clear structure. We start with physical warm-ups and open string exercises. Then we move to scales and technical drills. The main part focuses on repertoire and applying techniques. I end with a review and clear practice goals. I use recording and playback for self-assessment. I assess regularly and adjust goals as needed. My aim is to develop confident, expressive, and skilled violinists who enjoy playing and continue learning with joy.
