About Aine
I’m patient, approachable, and really good at explaining ideas in a clear, down‑to‑earth way. If a student doesn’t get something straight away, we take it step by step until it makes sense. I also help students feel confident using key studies, applying theories, and structuring their answers — so they don’t just memorise, but actually understand Sociology.
Most importantly, I create a supportive, comfortable learning environment where students feel heard, encouraged, and capable. Sociology is all about discussion, curiosity, and seeing the world differently, and I love helping students reach that point where everything “clicks” and they start enjoying the subject.

GCSE & A‑Level Sociology – Lesson Outlines
1. Warm‑Up & Recap (5–10 mins)
Quick chat or mini‑quiz to recap last lesson’s key ideas.
Short confidence‑check to see what the student remembers and where they may still need support.
Helps ease into the topic and sets a calm, positive tone.
2. Clear Explanation of Key Concepts (10–20 mins)
I break each topic down into simple, manageable steps, making sure the student understands the basics before we move on. Examples include:
For GCSE:
Families & Households
Education
Crime & Deviance
Sociological Theories (Functionalism, Marxism, Feminism)
For A‑Level:
Research Methods & Methodology
Beliefs in Society
Crime & Deviance (in more depth)
Theory & Methods (Positivism, Interpretivism, Functionalism, etc.)
I use real‑life examples, case studies, and clear explanations to make the content feel more relatable and easier to understand.
3. Guided Analysis & Application (15–25 mins)
We look at exam‑style questions and practise applying theories:
Discuss how sociologists would interpret an issue
Compare different theoretical perspectives
Break down what the exam question is actually asking
Model how to structure strong answers
This part of the lesson builds the student’s analytical skills and helps them feel more confident tackling unseen questions.
4. Exam Practice & Essay Skills (10–20 mins)
Students practise:
Short‑answer questions (GCSE)
10, 12, 20 and 30‑mark essays (A‑Level)
Structuring arguments clearly
Including relevant studies and sociologists
Using evaluation effectively
I show them what examiners want, using simple frameworks that make essays feel much more manageable.
5. Independent Practice (5–15 mins)
Students complete a few questions or a mini‑plan on their own.
This helps them test their understanding while I support when needed.
6. Feedback & Next Steps (5–10 mins)
Friendly, constructive feedback that builds confidence
We identify what went well and what we’ll focus on next time
Optional study tips or revision techniques to use between lessons
Additional Teaching Methods I Use
Mind maps to visualise theories and debates
Comparison tables to help understand different perspectives
Case studies to bring sociological ideas to life
Memory strategies (retrieval practice, spaced repetition)
Exam‑board specific guidance (AQA, OCR, etc)
