About Emma
Hi! I would love to help you become a more confident and impressive writer. I was the editor of my high school's literary magazine, which won dozens of awards. Also, as part of editing this magazine, I led weekly writing workshops, which taught ME how to teach writing by forcing me to come up with creative prompts, catch mechanical errors, and learn how to structure essays so they are most effective. I also earned a 5 on my AP English Language exam without a class. By using my own study method and writing style, I went into the test feeling good and came out feeling even better. I'm not some savant who got struck by lightning and became a genius. I just hacked the system. My teaching style is empathetic but honest, meaning I will give constructive feedback when necessary and encouragement to reflect good work. I aim to explain concepts as simply as possible, because I could never understand why teachers would use such convoluted explanations for the simplest topics.

I'll teach you how to discern the importance of certain details when reading, how to write essays that go deeper than surface-level observations, and how to make essay language concise but also beautiful. I'll help you build a personalized framework for essay writing in the future, so eventually, you won't need me. I'm going to teach you how to write for life, instead of taking a basic, essay-by-essay approach. We will use what you're doing in class, especially personal narratives and opinion writing, to build your writing competencies so it becomes your best skill.
