About Janeen
Holding a Master of Music degree from Berklee College of Music is often seen as purely musical, but it taught me the precise structural patterns behind any language. I admit that I spent years initially struggling to explain grammar until I realized that teaching Spanish requires the same patience as teaching a complex chord progression.
Over 13 years of instruction, I have helped 207 students bridge the gap between textbook Spanish and actual human interaction. My approach explores cultural context and everyday phrases for beginners to make the transition into Latin American versus Castilian variants feel natural. I find that focusing on conversational fluency and listening practice builds confidence far faster than rote memorization. Travel Spanish is often the starting point for my students, though we eventually move into more nuanced discussions about history and art.

You can expect a session that puts your current speaking ability at the very center of our time together. I use my 13 years of experience to identify exactly where your comprehension gaps exist. My Master of Music degree allows me to break down the phonetics of Spanish into manageable, rhythmic components. We will practice listening drills and everyday conversation to ensure you feel ready for real world interactions.
A free trial lesson to assess your level is available for all new students. I find that this initial meeting helps us establish a productive cadence for our future sessions. It is important that you feel challenged but never overwhelmed while we study together. I truly enjoy seeing how students start to express their own personalities through a second language.
